: a deep brown aqueous solution that has an odor of iodine, that contains approximately 5 grams of iodine and 10 grams of potassium iodide in 100 milliliters, and that is used chiefly in medicine for the internal administration of iodine and especially in veterinary practice as a disinfectant; also : any of several similar solutions (as an aqueous or alcoholic solution containing iodine and potassium iodide for use as a microscopic stain)
